Turning the Tide in Orbit: Turion’s $75M Boost

Turion Space announced that it has closed a Series B financing of more than $75 million, led by Washington Harbour Partners. The round includes pro rata participation from existing backers Aurelia Foundry, Forward Deployed VC, and FoundersX, and fresh capital from Center15 Capital, Magnetar, HOF Capital, and Industrious Ventures. The new capital is earmarked for a fivefold increase in satellite production, expansion of its Starfire™ operating system, and deeper engagement with U.S. defense and intelligence programs.

“This capital accelerates the fleet, expands reconnaissance coverage for Space Domain Awareness, and scales Starfire from constellation command to theater scale operations,” said Ryan Westerdahl, co-founder and CEO of Turion. The funding brings Turion’s total capital raised to roughly $81.7 million and positions the company to deliver a sovereign grade orbital intelligence infrastructure for the United States and its allies.

Fleet Production Scales Five-fold

Turion will boost its annual spacecraft output from eight vehicles to 40 by expanding manufacturing throughput and deepening its supply chain. The scale up is designed to meet growing demand for continuous, high resolution non Earth imaging across Low Earth and Geostationary orbits. “Increasing manufacturing capacity five-fold is a direct response to the accelerating need for real time orbital intelligence,” the company noted in its release.

Mission Critical Space Domain Awareness

With two successful DROID missions, DROID .001 (now de-orbited) and DROID .002 (launched March 2024), Turion has already delivered over 40,000 images to U.S. and allied operators. The Series B will fund additional satellite deployments to expand coverage, support the U.S. Space Force’s STRATFI program, and enhance high resolution tracking of orbital objects. To date, Turion holds 28 U.S. government contracts spanning the Space Force, NASA, the Space Development Agency, and the National Reconnaissance Office.

Starfire Software Powers Autonomous Constellations

The Starfire™ suite, covering mission planning, autonomous tasking, and command and control, will be scaled to manage larger, multi-satellite constellations, both Turion owned and third party. Its software defined architecture enables operators to reconfigure payloads without hardware changes, reducing long term operational costs while increasing mission flexibility across LEO and GEO environments.

Strategic Government Partnerships and Andromeda Nod

Turion was selected as one of 14 firms for the Pentagon’s $1.8 billion Andromeda program, which monitors adversary spacecraft in the contested GEO belt. “We’re building a dependable, sovereign grade infrastructure layer that strengthens deterrence today and lays the groundwork for responsible in space resource utilization tomorrow,” said Mina Faltas, Founder and CIO of Washington Harbour Partners. Space Force Colonel Bryon McClain highlighted the program’s role in delivering “predictive battlespace awareness” for warfighters.

Why Zillionize Invested

Zillionize is laser focused on seed startups led by passionate founders that push the boundaries of technology. Turion fits the mold. They’ve combined hardware, sensor payloads, and AI driven software that addresses a critical gap in U.S. space security. The company’s proven execution, two operational missions, a rapidly growing government contract pipeline, and a clear path to five-fold production capacity aligns with Zillionize’s mandate to back founders who are building durable, mission critical infrastructure. Turion’s roadmap, from expanded orbital intelligence to next generation maneuverable spacecraft and, ultimately, responsible space resource utilization, offers a compelling long term upside for both defense and commercial markets.
