Tavus Secures $18 M Series A to Scale AI-Powered Video Personalization

San Francisco-based Tavus, the generative-AI video research company behind the Phoenix model, announced an $18 million Series A led by Scale Venture Partners. The round also brought Sequoia Capital, Y Combinator, HubSpot and other backers on board, and added Scale’s Rory O’Driscoll to the board. The fresh capital will accelerate Tavus’ model development, broaden its enterprise sales engine, and fuel the rollout of its new developer platform that exposes its replica, lip-sync, dubbing and video-campaign APIs.

Founded in 2020 by CEO Hassaan Raza and Quinn Favret, Tavus has already attracted marquee customers such as Salesforce and Meta. Its SaaS offering lets sales and marketing teams generate hyper-personalized video at scale, while the newly opened API suite enables any developer to embed photo-realistic digital replicas directly into their products.

Series A Funding Highlights

The $18 million round was led by Scale Venture Partners, with Rory O’Driscoll joining Tavus’ board of directors. Existing investors Sequoia Capital, Y Combinator, and HubSpot also participated, reaffirming confidence in the company’s roadmap. The capital will be allocated to “fuel the fire that’s already burning” at Tavus – expanding the machine-learning and engineering teams, and accelerating go-to-market efforts across enterprise and mid-market segments.

Product Expansion: Phoenix & the Developer Platform

Tavus unveiled the public beta of its Developer Platform, anchored by the Phoenix model. Phoenix creates photo-realistic digital replicas from as little as two minutes of training footage, using a neural radiance field (NeRF) approach to reconstruct a 3D facial scene. The Replica API, now in beta, lets developers generate full-length talking-head videos from a single script call. Upcoming APIs will add lower-cost lip-sync, multilingual dubbing, and end-to-end video-campaign orchestration, extending the platform from a SaaS app to a model-as-a-service offering.

Enterprise Traction and Use-Case Diversity

Beyond its SaaS customers, Tavus is powering personalized video workflows for enterprises in banking, real-estate, automotive and health-care. Integrations with Salesforce, Mailchimp and other CRM systems enable automated video outreach, e.g., a prospect who fills out a form instantly receives a video from a sales rep that addresses them by name. The company also reports collaboration with “one of the largest video platforms” to bring its technology to millions of creators.

Safety, Consent and Deep-Fake Guardrails

Recognizing the misuse potential of face and voice cloning, Tavus enforces a two-step verification process. Users must provide a verbal consent statement that is automatically matched to the training audio, followed by a human review of every replica before it is released via the API. The platform only permits a person to create a replica of themselves, ensuring that the technology remains under the creator’s control.

Why Zillionize Invested

Zillionize invested in Tavus during Y Combinator’s Summer 2021 batch because we recognized the transformative potential of AI-powered video personalization and the strength of the founding team’s vision. We believed that making authentic, personalized video communication scalable would fundamentally change how businesses engage with their customers. Since our initial investment, Tavus has evolved beyond sales and marketing applications into a powerful generative AI platform, enabling developers to integrate realistic digital replicas and personalized video experiences directly into their own products. With its proprietary Phoenix AI model, growing enterprise adoption, and expanding developer ecosystem, Tavus is demonstrating its potential to become foundational infrastructure for the next generation of AI-driven communication. We’re excited to see the team continue pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with generative AI.
